Acupuncture 101

What is Acupuncture?

Health can be disrupted in so many different ways. Anxiety, stress, poor nutrition, inadequate sleep, excessive work, infections, toxins and traumas — any of which can lead to imbalances and dysfunction in your body.

Acupuncture harnesses your body’s natural healing ability with the insertion of sterilized, stainless steel needles - which are about as wide as a hair - into specific points and areas of your body. The needles stimulate nerve pathways of the Central Nervous System and help bring your hormonal, circulatory, nervous, immune, reproductive and musculoskeletal systems back into balance.

Acupuncture treatments increase circulation to local areas, as well as systemically throughout your entire body for improved blood flow and oxygen to tissues, muscles and organs. This cascade effect reduces pain, decreases inflammation, balances hormones and releases chemical messengers in the brain like natural pain killer cells, endorphins and dopamine. The result is a feeling of relaxation and overall health as your body recovers.

Acupuncture faciltates your body’s natural ability to heal in a profound way.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Absolutely. I have undergone extensive education, Clean Needle Technique certification and comprehensive national board examinations administered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

I’m licensed by the State of Michigan and as required by law, I use FDA approved, pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use needles to ensure your complete safety.

What To Expect

I use hair-thin, sterilized, flexible needles that you’ll hardly feel upon insertion. You may feel a sensation of heaviness, tingling or warmth as the needles go in. Many of my patients report feeling very relaxed and some even fall asleep during their treatment. Afterwards, you should expect to feel relaxed and a decrease in your symptoms. If you have a chronic or longstanding condition, you will feel more decrease in symptoms over time as acupuncture treatments build upon each other over the long-term.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The benefits of Acupuncture are cumulative, so more than one treatment is recommended. For acute conditions, you can expect to schedule 6-10 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after just a few sessions.

This is why I offer affordable packages of three, five and ten treatments to fit your individual budgets and needs. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. You can also schedule preventative treatments, and treatments for general well-being and relaxation at any time.
