Microneedling 101
So, what exactly is Microneedling?
In a nutshell, Microneedling stimulates your body's own collagen production. The microneedles are fine, sterile needles that create micro-channels on the surface of the skin to stimulate skin cells to repair and regenerate. A wound healing cascade is created that releases growth factors in the skin like platelet derived growth factor (PGF), connective tissue activating protein, connective tissue growth factor, and fibroblast growth factor (FGF). Studies have shown that microneedling can increase serum absorption by as much as 300%.
Visible results begin on the first day and continue for up to five years. With continued treatments, your collagen levels continue to build up and skin becomes increasingly more luminous and even.
How is Microneedling different from Botox, fillers or laser?
Botox is made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by freezing muscle movement which effectively prevents the formation of fine lines and softens wrinkles. Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.
Microneedling uses no injectables and is safe for all skin types and ages. The process uses your body's natural skin healing power to rejuvenate from the inside out.
All CO2 fractionated lasers burn away skin - microneedling does not damage or remove any part of the skin.
Microneedling is significantly more affordable than Botox, injectable fillers and laser treatments and yields lasting effects that continue beyond the last treatment up to five years.
Is Microneedling only for the face?
Microneedling can be used on the scalp, neck, chest, hands, abdomen and thighs. It treats acne scars, stretch marks and anywhere you’d like to improve skin tone and texture.
What results can I expect?
Stimulates collagen and elastin production for firmer, fuller skin
Smoother skin texture
Reduction in appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and scars
Decrease in hyperpigmentation for a glowing complexion
Enhances your skincare regimen for maximum effectiveness
Helps decrease rosacea
What’s the difference between Microneedling and Nanoneedling?
Microneedling stimulates the deeper layers of the dermis, while nanoneedling works at the superficial layer — the upper .15 mm of the skin, to improve your skin's product absorption by up to 97%, stimulates collagen and gently exfoliates.
Microneedling uses a numbing topical applied to the face, and patients can experience some mild redness.
Nanoneedling is pain free, with zero downtime and can be performed weekly.
How often should I do Microneedling for best results?
The best results are achieved by a four to six month treatment program, with microneedling once a month. New collagen growth begins anywhere from week four to 12 and continues once treatments are discontinued.
For maximum effect, scheduling a microneedling session once a month, with nanoneedling sessions weekly in between, will yield even greater and more impactful results.
What should I expect in a Microneedling treatment?
You’ll lay comfortably in one of our acupuncture treatment rooms where we’ll do a few key, grounding, acupuncture points to relax and rejuvenate the body.
Next your face will be gently cleansed and a mild, topical anesthetic applied. AcuLift™organic, vegan serums with hyaluronic acid, apple and mushroom stem cells, CoQ10, Vits D, E, C and A are then applied.
The AcuLift™ MicroPen is gently rolled over the face and following treatment, your skin may appear pink or slightly red. Finally a mist of arnica and aloe will be spritzed over the skin.
Redness typically disappears after 12-14 hours. You will need to avoid the sun for three to five days following treatment and you’ll receive an aftercare plan tailored to your specific concerns. Results may begin as soon as right after treatment and last up to five years.
Your first treatment will be 90 minutes with a full intake, and treatments thereafter are 45 minutes.
