Cupping
Cupping is one of the oldest methods of traditional Chinese medicine in which glass cups are applied to specific areas of the body and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either be left stationary or moved along the body. This technique increases blood flow and oxygen, moves lymph, breaks up musculoskeletal adhesions and creates a pathway for toxins to be drawn out of the body. In addition it relaxes the Central Nervous System and decreases systemic stress in the body.
Not only is cupping extremely effective at improving circulation to help facilitate detoxification, decreasing inflammation and alleviating pain, it treats a variety of conditions: bronchitis, asthma, colds and the flu; arthritis; neck, shoulder and low back tension; abdominal pain; constipation; edema; depression and sports injuries. https://www.acupuncturetoday.com/abc/cupping.php
Moxibustion
Moxibustion also known as moxa is a technique that involves the burning of mugwort, an herb used to facilitate healing by heating specific acupuncture points and areas of the body. Moxibustion is to stimulate circulation, and counteract cold and dampness that accumulates in the body.
Gua Sha
Gua sha (press-stroking therapy) is a modality that is used to treat musculoskeletal pain, limited range of motion, impaired circulation, and inflammation. There has been recent scientific research showing that gua sha protects against oxidative stress, reduces inflammation, strengthens the immune system, and weakens allergic reactions.
Gua sha can be used to treat both acute and chronic pain. It is extremely effective at clearing the lungs in conditions like asthma, bronchitis, colds and other respiratory disorders. In addition, it is also a wonderful adjunct modality in treating stress, neck and shoulder tension, acid reflux, constipation, IBS, anxiety and depression.
Aroma Acupoint Therapy
Aroma Acupoint Therapy incorporates the use of therapeutic grade essential oils applied to specific acupuncture points that catalyze shifts in pain, consciousness & mood. I have discovered in practice, that by incorporating this modality into patient treatment protocols, that the results have been highly successful in treating trauma, pain & emotional imbalances. Essential oils calm the mind and nervous system and can be used for self care at home. A combination of essential oils with acupressure works well in pediatric treatments or for adults who prefer treatment without needles.
