About Kat
I recently moved my practice from Ferndale to 1320 N. Campbell Rd in Royal Oak, MI. After 11 years of treating patients from Seattle, WA to Chicago, IL, I'm thrilled to be back home in Michigan.
I am a nationally board certified (NCCAOM) and licensed Acupuncturist in Michigan, as well as a member of the Michigan Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAAOM). In addition to receiving a Master's of Science of Acupuncture from one of the world’s leading centers for natural medicine, Bastyr University, I earned a Master's of Science of Chinese Herbal Medicine and Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. My first introduction with Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine was while working as an HIV Case Manager in Chicago 15 + years ago. I was able to directly witness the transformative impact that it had on my clients’ quality of life, health and emotional well-being.
Through my own personal history with anxiety, I have a perspective that encompasses both experiential knowledge and compassion. When anxiety, insomnia and vertigo began to affect all aspects of my daily life, I decided to give acupuncture a try. With consistent weekly treatments, I ceased having panic attacks, my anxiety decreased, sleep quality improved and I was able to manage stress more effectively. Learning that my symptoms were inter-related and that I could be proactive in my treatment plan, my Acupuncturist gave me tools and resources to be utilized outside of the treatment room. As a result, I was inspired to learn more about Chinese medicine and ultimately based my career path on helping patients experience their own understanding from physical & emotional imbalances!
In 2012, I completed a 2 year post-graduate, clinical mentorship in Stockbridge, MA based in the Five Element tradition of Chinese medicine with Lonny Jarrett, L.Ac., author of Nourishing Destiny: The Inner Tradition of Chinese Medicine. Jarrett's teachings combines the richness and complexity of the ancient traditions with a truly progressive perspective to create the highest context for healing patients.
I'm currently studying with Dr. Michael Corradino, DAOM and learning his system of Neuropuncture a cutting-edge, unique acupuncture system developed by incorporating the research of the neurophysiological mechanisms of acupuncture, combining research of electrical acupuncture’s effects on specific neural receptors, while maintaining the holistic traditional TCM model. Diagnosis and treatment is highly effective at modulating the nervous system and excels at treating pain cases, internal medicine, sports medicine and orthopedics.
